Vehicles stranded after bridge collapse

NAWALPARASI: Jay Shree Bridge over Jay Shree Khola at Gaindakot along Mahendra Highway in Nawalparasi collapsed on Monday. The Narayangadh-Butwal road section was disconnected after the bridge collapsed at around 6:45pm. Area Police Office, Gaindakot, said that vehicles ferrying heavy load had led to the bridge collapse. Vehicles have been stranded on both sides after the bridge collapsed. Ram Narayan Yogi, Engineer at Department of Roads Butwal, said that sagging of the beams of the bridge had made it impossible for vehicles to cross the bridge. Yogi said that as he was in the Capital and could not give details about the incident. Police said that despite their efforts it was not possible for them to arrange a diversion due to nightfall. Police said that vehicular movement would resume from tomorrow evening after a diversion was managed. The bridge had broken down three ago. It was then repaired by inserting iron sheets.

Fugitive nabbed

JANAKPURDHAM: Mahottari Police arrested a fugitive, who was accused of fraud and had been on the run for seven years, on Monday.  Chandeshwor Sah Sudi, of Gaushala, Mahottari, Sudi had been out of contact after the District Court ordered his arrest seven years ago.

Jailed for polygamy

DAMAULI: District court of Tanahun has remanded a person to custody on the charge of polygamy.  Rabindra Shrestha, 30, of Campus Road, Bhamad VDC,  was sent to detention for trial after his wife Lalita filed a case against Shrestha and his new wife 20-year-old Shobha. The court has however, ordered Shobha’s release on a bail of Rs 50,000.
