Vehicles vandalised for defying bandh in Gaighat

Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist cadres vandalised a mini truck with an Indian number plate in Udayapur district headquarters Gaighat today for defying the party’s nation-wide general strike.
The Chand-led Maoists had enforced a general strike today to protest the death of Govind Gautam in a firing incident involving Indian border security personnel in Kanchanpur on Thursday.
Chand-led CPN Maoist cadres had vandalised the Indian mini truck loaded with vegetables.
The vehicle was ferrying vegetables from India’s Bihar, according to sub-inspector Lokraj Diyali at Traffic Police Office, Udayapur.
Police arrested Maoist Udayapur in-charge Kedar Rai, Man Bahadur Danuwar and Yubaraj Karki, among others, for their involvement in the vandalism.
Market places were shut while transportation service came to a grinding halt due to the general strike in Gaighat.
Meanwhile, Chand-led CPN Maoist cadres set an Indian heavy truck kept at the garage for repair on fire in Chitwan’s Bharatpur.
The agitators had sprinkled petrol on the vehicle and set it ablaze before fleeing the scene.
Similarly, as many as 16 bandh enforcers were held from different places of Pokhara and Lekhnath.
The agitators had damaged the windowpane of a truck in the Lake City while local factories and markets remained closed due to the bandh.
As many as nine Chand-led CPN Maoist cadres were held from Tanahun headquarters Damauli.
The Maoist activists were held while trying to halt vehicles citing the general strike along the Prithvi Highway, informed police.
