Vehicular traffic increasing on BP Highway
Vehicular movement has significantly increased on the BP Highway that connects different parts of the eastern and Tarai region from Kathmandu.
According to District Traffic Police Office, Sindhuli, more than 10,000 vehicles, including passenger buses, micro-buses, jeeps, private cars and motorcycles, among other means of transport, have been plying the road section on a daily basis since Dashain festival.
Traffic police informed that despite the road section being busy, no accident has been reported yet. SI Chandra Kumar Shrestha, at the DTPO, said zero accident had been recorded during the festive season.
Police said they took action against 1,300 vehicles in the last month for traffic rule violations. Traffic police said they have collected over nine lakh rupees in fine from rule violators.
The operation of the 158-kilometre-long Bardibas-Sindhuli-Dhulikhel road section has significantly cut travel time to reach the eastern region while people from the Kathmandu Valley were able to reach their ancestral homes with much ease during Dashain festival.
Construction of the road section along the BP Highway had started some 20 years ago. BP Highway connects all the districts of Janakpur, Mechi, Koshi and Sagarmatha zones to the capital.
