Victim’s family loses hope for justice
- Police are nowhere near the truth although they claim that investigation into the incident is being carried out from different angles
Dhangadi, October 5
With the passage of time, investigation into the rape and murder case of Nirmala Panta of Bhimdattanagar, Kanchanpur, seems to have become more complicated.
Family members of the victim have started doubting if Nirmala will ever be done justice, especially after the DNA report of the suspects came out negative. On the other hand, police are nowhere near the truth although they claim that investigation is being carried out from different angles.
Demonstrations are held in Bhimdattanagar almost every day, while women rights activists are staging relay hunger strike. Rights activist Helen Shrestha said the investigation was deliberately made complicated with the police officials destroying crucial evidences.
Meanwhile, the delay in bringing to book the culprit has got Nirmala’s parents frustrated. Nirmala’s father Ekraj Panta said he had lost hope of getting justice.
“I’ve also lost hope for justice after hearing the remarks of the prime minister and the home minister,” he observed.
Nirmala, a 13-year-old girl, of Bhimdattanagar, Kanchanpur, was raped and murdered on July 26. Regarding the murder, Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau, District Police Office’s investigation team and another probe team led by SSP Durga Singh are working to find the culprit behind the murder.
Though earlier a high-level committee led by joint secretary at the home ministry Hari Prasad Mainali had submitted its report after investigating the incident, the government hasn’t made the report public yet.
