As many as 32 rape incidents were reported in the last 11 months in Saptari.

The data released by Informal Sector Service Centre show that 32 rape incidents were reported in Saptari. According to INSEC Saptari representative Manohar Kumar Pokhrel, 33 girls and women were raped during the period.

Of the 43 accused of rape, 17 have been detained in police custody, arrest warrant has been issued against 11 and six are still at large. The data show that one minor girl and a single woman were raped and subsequently murdered. Likewise, five members of a family are in the police custody on the charge of murdering a pregnant woman.

In the 11 months, 20 polygamy cases were registered. Two involved in the polygamy are in custody, 10 were freed on general date while arrest warrants have been issued against eight. Similarly, five incidents of inhumane treatment of women on the charge of practicing witchcraft were reported.
