Damauli Hospital in Tanahun has witnessed an increase in viral and typhoid cases of late.

According to the hospital’s Nursing and Information Officer Jamunadevi Sharma, over 150 viral and typhoid patients, most of them women and children, visited the hospital on a daily basis. “We used to have patients suffering from viral fever before, but now the number has almost doubled due to soaring temperature. Besides, there are also cough, typhoid and dysentery patients,” she said.

Patients have complained that they have to queue for hours for treatment.

District Public Health Office officer Ishwori Chandra Bhattarai has urged commoners to pay more attention to personal hygiene. “As cases of viral fever continue to rise people should be more careful and adopt preventive measures. They should use face masks, avoid consuming stale food and drink water only after boiling it or treating it with purifiers,” he said.

Bhattarai also cautioned people about dengue infection as the disease was confirmed on about half a dozen persons in Byas Municipality.“People sometimes neglect fever, but this could also be a symptom of dengue. So, I urge people to be on their guard and reach out to health facilities in time for treatment,” he said.
