KATHMANDU: Vitidnan Rojanapanich, the first Thai climber to conquer Mount Everest and President of the Thai Nepal Friendship Association (TNFA), has arrived in Khumbu region to embark on an exciting journey to climb Yasa Thak, a peak in the majestic Himalayas.
This expedition on 6,141m-metre peak carries special significance, as the peak he ascends will be given a new name, to be officially announced upon his summit, expected on December 5, said TNFA Vice-President Kanchha Gurung (Gabo).
Vitidnan, the renowned businessperson, aims to scale the peak on this special day because December 5 is considered as a special day in the Kingdom of Thailand as it was declared by the Royal Thai Government as the National Day of the country.
The success of this mission is made possible through the generous support of various organizations, including the Nepal Ambassador to Thailand, the Nepal Mountaineering Association, the Nepal Tourism Board, the Department of South Asia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Thai Lumbini Temple Nepal, Thai Phutthakaya Temple, and Thai Kusinara Temple among others, he added.
President Vitidan scaled Mt Everest on 22 May 2008 leading a team of Vietnamese climbers and stayed on the top for 40 minutes, according to Gurung. Vitidan will be the first foreign climber to scale the peak if he succeeds.
Sherpa siblings Fura Tshering and Ngima Tashi successfully summited Yasa Thak Peak at 5:30 PM on November 27, becoming the first climbers to scale the peak, which is recently opened for climbing by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
