Juddha Bahadur Ayadi, chair of Ward No 7 of Tribeni Municipality was arrested on the basis of an FIR filed against him and 21 others in connection with the murder.

According to District Police Office chief Surya Thapa, investigation is under way.

It is worth noting that the ward chair, charged with thrashing a local Dalit for 'violating the sanctity of a temple by entering it, was released, along with three other persons, one month ago on bail of Rs 100,000 following order of the district court.

The ward chair and his team had beaten Tekendrasingh Sunar for entering and performing puja in Nateshwori temple of Ward No 7.

Earlier, police had arrested a few persons in response to the FIR. Further, police have said more people figuring in the FIR would be arrested.

On November 20, a dispute had erupted after a Nepali Congress cadre died due to police firing in an attempt to capture an election booth at Nateshwori Primary School. After NC cadre Sanjiv Ayadi of Ward No 7 was killed, angry cadres of NC had reached the local UML leaders' homes, including that of Ayadi, and assaulted them.

Seriously injured, he was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at Bayalpata Hospital of Achham.

Three persons, including a police head constable, were injured in a clash at the election centre on election day.
