Bung and Octopus waterfalls that lie in the famed Annapurna Circuit in Lamjung district have been wearing deserted look lately.
Prior to the arrival of monsoon, these twin waterfalls at Chaymche of Ward No 4, Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, used to receive around 150 to 200 visitors, both foreign and domestic, on a daily basis on average.
With the decline in the number of trekkers in the Annapurna Circuit, the areas where these two waterfalls are located have become deserted as well.
Marsyangdi Rural Municipality Chairperson Arjun Gurung shared, "Tourists do not visit these waterfalls due to risk during the monsoon."
The local hoteliers are worried that they will not be able to earn anything in the absence of tourists that used to throng the picturesque waterfalls. Lately, around 10 to 15 visitors are recorded in these waterfalls, informed locals.
The Octopus waterfall is named after Octopus, a sea animal having eight arms.
The water falling down from the waterfall resembles the multiple arms of octopus.
Locals demand better road condition for the visitors to visit these waterfalls without any hassle.
Currently, the road is in a sorry state due to natural disasters triggered by monsoon rain, said Pancha Bahadur Gurung, a local business person.
