A westerly low-pressure system that entered western Nepal this evening has triggered rainfall and snowfall across the region.
According to Barun Paudel, Senior Meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, rainfall has begun in Baitadi, Darchula, and Chandhani–Dodhar, while snowfall has started in Dolpa and Humla. The weather system is expected to move eastward, bringing additional rain and snowfall to western areas.
Paudel stated that skies will remain cloudy nationwide from Wednesday morning, and the Kathmandu Valley is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall. As the system progresses eastward, the Koshi and Madhesh provinces are expected to be less affected.
In the past hour, Darchula and Baitadi recorded 0.8 millimetres of rainfall. According to the weather bulletin issued this evening, mostly cloudy conditions are expected tonight in the high hilly and mountainous regions, including Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the remaining hilly and Terai regions will remain partly cloudy.
There is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall in many areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as light rain or snowfall at a few locations in other high hilly and Himalayan regions. Heavy snowfall is also likely at one or two locations in the highlands of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Additionally, thunderstorms and lightning may occur at a few places in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
On Wednesday afternoon, mostly cloudy conditions are expected in high hilly and mountainous regions, while generally cloudy skies will prevail across the remaining hilly and Terai areas. Moderate rain and snowfall may occur at a few locations in high-altitude regions, while moderate rainfall is also likely in parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light rain is possible in some hilly areas of Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces, and at one or two locations in the Terai of Koshi Province.
On Wednesday night, partly cloudy conditions are forecast in the hilly and Himalayan regions, with mostly fair weather elsewhere. Light rain or snowfall is possible at one or two locations in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
On Thursday afternoon, fog and mist are likely across many parts of the Terai. Partly cloudy conditions are expected in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while mostly fair weather will prevail in other regions. Light rain or snowfall may occur at one or two high-altitude locations in these provinces. During Thursday night, mist is likely in parts of the Terai, while mostly fair weather is expected elsewhere, with partly cloudy skies in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
