Whiff of contest for CA vice-chairperson’s chair

Kathmandu, November 26:

Five women and a man from the Constituent Assembly members today filed their nomination for the post of Vice-chairperson of the CA. Of them one represents ruling party, CPN-Maoist, and rest the fringe parties.

The election for the post will start at 11 a.m. on 28th November (Friday).

The candidates contesting for the coveted post are Purna Kumari Subedi from CPN-Maoist, Prativa Rana of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Khovari Raya of Sadbhawana Party, Lila Nyainchain of Nepal Workers and Peasant’s Party (NWPP), Ramani Ram of Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP), and Nilam K.C. Khadka of CPN (Marxist-Leninist).

Among the ‘big’ parties Nepali Congress decided to support women candidates of the non-ruling parties in the election while CPN-UML is yet to decide on it.

“We have decided to vote for the women candidates of the non-ruling parties as the CA chairperson represents ruling party,” said NC Chief Whip Laxman Prasad Ghimire.

UML deputy leader at the CA, Surendra Pandey informed that his party would decide tomorrow on it. Madheshi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) has supported the candidate of TMLP in the nomination.

Maoist’s Subedi is from Banke and RPP’s Rana from Lalitpur, Sadbhawana’s Raya, Sarlahi, NWPP’s Nyainchain, Bhaktapur, TMLP’s Ram, Saptari, CPN-ML’s K.C., Jhapa.

The voting for an individual candidate will continue until one of the six gets clear majority as per the election procedure.
