WHO plans to check yaws

Kathmandu, January 26:

The World Health Organisation is developing a new global strategy to combat yaws, a neglected disease which has been detected in some parts of poor, rural and marginalised populations of Africa, Asia and South America.

Yaws, a disease which eats away at the skin, cartilage and bones, is re-emerging in rural populations of Africa, Asia and South America. Dr Arjun Dev Pant, senior paediatrician at Kanti Child Hospital, said that he doesn’t know of official reporting of any yaws case in Nepal.
