Woman dies of heart attack after seeing cops

Rajbiraj, December 25

A woman died of heart attack after she saw a group of people, including police, at her house in Rajgadh Rural Municipality, Saptari, today.

The deceased has been identified as Sabita Devi, 40.

A police team along with staffers from Nepal Electricity Authority reached her house to investigate a case of electricity theft. Her husband Anil Jha said, “The team with their instruments had entered the house and started to scold family members.” According to Anil, his wife fell unconscious with fear and died. Irate locals did not allow the body to be taken to hospital for post-mortem.

Ward Chairman Lalit Narayan Singh said they would not allow post-mortem to be done until police took responsibility for the incident and provided relief and compensation.

DSP Bhabesh Rimal at District Police Office, Saptari, said police had found out that the deceased was a heart patient. DSP Rimal said the team was deployed to control theft of electricity and had not tortured Sabita.

Meanwhile, rural municipality Chairman Paramananda Yadav said Sabita fell unconscious after the team along with police suddenly entered the house and inquired about theft of electricity. The team has taken as many as nine persons under control on the charge of electricity theft from Kamalpur.

Locals accused the police of arresting a guest. Ward Chair Lalit Narayan Yadav said an Indian national Chandan Yadav, a guest of a local resident Kamal Dev, was held on charge of  theft.
