Khotang, August 12

A woman, who had gone to hunt porcupine, was found dead in a cave at Simpani of Khotehang Rural Municipality in Khotang last evening.

According to District Police Office, Khotang, the deceased has been identified as Sarita Tamang, 45, of the locality. She had left her home along with her eleven-year-old son Nawal and eight-year-old daughter Pujana to hunt porcupine in a cave at Diukhola yesterday morning.

They didn’t return until late evening and their neighbours notified security personnel about them. A joint search team of locals and security personnel had entered the cave after seeing the fire burning outside along with Tamang’s slippers.

Sarita was found dead, Nawal was in sub-conscious state and Pujana was rescued unharmed, said DPO Khotang Inspector Keshav Kumar Katuwal. Security personnel surmised that the woman might have died of suffocation from the fire meant to kill the porcupine.
