District Court Udayapur convicted Sita Rai, 30, for murdering her husband’s second wife and sentenced her to 18 years and 9 months in prison.

A single bench of district judge Dipak Khanal on Tuesday issued the verdict. Sita was convicted of killing her husband’s second wife Laxmi Rai, 20, by slitting her throat.

Sita, who lived 100 metres away from her husband, had called Laxmi to her place and slit her throat with a knife on June 23.

Sita was arrested on the same day. She was remanded to judicial custody on July 18.

Sita had been living separately ever since husband Pradhan Rai, 31, took Laxmi Rai as second wife.
