A woman from Khatyang Rural Municipality, Mugu, gave birth to a baby boy while she was being airlifted in a Nepali Army helicopter today.
The helicopter of Base Camp, Surkhet, reached Mugu to rescue the woman who was struggling for life due to labour pain. Dhan Laxmi Rawal, 20, of the rural municipality gave birth to the baby in mid-air while she was being taken to Surkhet.
According to Major of NA Bilina Malla, chief of the army pilot Ratna Chandra Shrestha rescued the woman.
Major Malla said that the woman could not give birth to the baby even after 18 hours labour pain. "The condition was more serious as the baby was not in proper condition and she had to be taken to the hospital as soon as possible," she added. Malla said that the woman gave birth to the baby in mid-air in Dailekh district 30 minutes after take-off.
NA had rescued the woman under the President Woman Promote Programme Coordination Unit. The condition of the neonatal and the mother is said to be normal.
They are receiving treatment in Province Hospital, Surkhet.
Rawal's husband Panchalal said that he was very happy with the noble work of the NA. "My wife was in labour pain and there was no possibility of giving birth to the baby there, but the NA helicopter rescued my wife," he said
