Woman missing for 25 days

Birgunj, January 25

Police have not been able to find the whereabouts of a woman, who had gone missing 25 days ago in Birgunj, Parsa.

The missing woman is Sajara Khatun, 20. Khatun was married to Chokat Miya’s son Rahim Hawari a year ago in Inarwa, Birgunj. Khatun’s parents had registered a missing person complaint with District Police Office 13 days ago.

Police had recovered the body of a woman burnt alive on January 17 from Apauni of Birgunj. Khatun’s parents suspect that the body was of their daughter.

Ward Police Office, Shreepur, which is investigating both incidents, stated that the two incidents were not related. Inspector Chakra Bahadur Malla at the ward police office said further investigation was launched to establish the truth.

“After Khatun’s parents suspected that the charred body belonged to their daughter, DNA samples of father, mother and the body have been sent to Kathmandu for test,” said Malla.

According to Khatun’s parents, Khatun had come to their place from her home on January 1 to celebrate New Year.  She had returned home the next day. Four days later, when Khatun’s elder brother visited her home, family members told him that Khatun had fled home. Thereafter, her parents had started searching for her.

Meanwhile, SP Rewati Dhakal at District Police office, Parsa, claimed that they had intensified the search operation.
