Woman presumed dead found alive!

Kavre, October 16:

The wife of a man who was supposed dead after he allegedly threw her into Indrawati River on October 10 is very much alive and kicking. On Saturday, she was found at her maternal

home by one Ishworiraj Kumar Mainali who brought her to his house in Tinpiple yesterday.

After locals told the Maoists that Man Bahadur Tamang, 32, a resident of Dolalghat-1 had thrown his wife Dolmaya into the river after beating her up, the Maoists caught him and kept him their custody for four days. Yesterday, they handed him over to the police. The District Police Office kept Dolmaya with her husband last night.

Man Bahadur told the police that he had beaten his wife twice. Dolmaya went off to her maternal home after her husband beat her. Neighbours said Man Bahadur had started beating his wife after marrying a second wife.

DSP Mahendra Pokhrel said the couple would be released if villagers come to take them.

However, the Maoists have urged the people not to do so, said a local. When asked, the Maoists declined to say anything about the matter. Locals, alleging that the Maoists did not take action against Man Bahadur, disrupted traffic in Dolalghat for two hours yesterday. Angered, the Maoists took under control one Govinda Parajuli on the charge of instigating people to disrupt traffic.

Yesterday, Maoist district chairperson and Panchkhal Area Commander Suresh (Sano Lila Shrestha) misbehaved with human rights activist Bhojraj Timalsina who is the Kavre representative of INSEC. Hurling abuses, Suresh dragged Timalsina out from Mainali’s house in Tinpiple where Dolmaya was sheltering. “I had gone there to know how she was. Suresh pulled me out from the house, asking why I went there without calling. He also said that human right activists and journalists are cheats,” said Timalsina.
