Woman runs from pillar to post

Kapilvastu, January 17:

Janam Nisha, 41, a resident of Kapilvastu’s Chanai VDC, has been running from pillar to post to find the whereabouts of her husband for the last three years but to no avail.

“The administration claims my husband was killed, but I have not got his body,” laments the 41-year-old woman. The Kapilvastu district administration office claims that her husband Mustafa Dargi Musalman was killed during the Maoist attack on Kapilvastu prison.

Janam said, “When the Maoists attacked the prison, no prisoner’s death was reported. How can I believe that my husband was killed in that incident?” she questioned.

When the Kapilvastu headquarters Taulihawa was attacked on April 7, 2006, six security personnel and a civilian were killed.

Musalman was arrested by security personnel during the insurgency and he was kept in Kapilvastu prison. Musalman also features on the list of disappeared persons.

Mustafa was arrested on January 25, 2006, on the charge of involvement in Maoist movement and was imprisoned under the terrorist act. Janam has knocked on the doors of National Human Rights Commission’s zonal office in Butwal, International Committee of Red Cross, Peace Ministry, INSEC, Amnesty International, Advocacy Forum, Human Rights Network and many NGOs, INGOs and the media, to help find her husband’s whereabouts.

Kapilvastu CDO Nagendra

Jha, however, said Mustafa’s name was on the list of those who lost their lives during the insurgency. Jha said the government had allocated Rs 1 lakh each for the families of every person killed during the conflict.
