Jhapa, August 19

A man thrashed his wife indiscriminately after she gave birth to a girl in Birtamode, Jhapa, yesterday night.

According to Area Police Office, Birtamode, Jyabul Hak of the municipality thrashed his wife Ashma Khatun black and blue for failing to give birth to a son. Jyabul also thrashed his wife for not bringing enough dowry.

The newborn is Ashma’s second daughter.

Ashma has received critical head injuries. Her mother Nageshwora Khatun informed that Jyabul had fled after Ashma fell unconscious.

“Severe action should be taken against Jyabul as he tried to kill my daughter,” said Nageshwora.

Ashma is receiving treatment at Community and Student Health Centre in Birtamode, where she is in critical condition.

Dr Manuram Chimariya said Ashma was diagnosed with anemia due to excessive bleeding from the head.
