KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 20

World Children's Day is being observed today across the country, joining the global community in marking the occasion under the theme "My day, my rights."

The message highlights children's voices and the importance of safeguarding their rights. Another focus theme, "For Every Child, Every Right," underscores that every child deserves care, protection and the chance to thrive.

World Children's Day, also known as Universal Children's Day, is celebrated each year on 20 November, commemorating the UN General Assembly's adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989).

UNICEF has called on governments, communities and families to stand up for children's rights, noting that young people are "powerful agents of change" with ideas that can help shape a better future.

In his message, UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that children's rights are increasingly threatened by poverty, conflict and climate change. He urged the world to "listen to children and amplify their voices," stressing the shared responsibility to create a safer and more equitable world for every child.
