WWF/N plans carbon trade
Kathmandu, September 9:
The World Wildlife Fund, Nepal (WWF/N) has stated that it would sale carbon in the international market by establishing 7,500 biogas plants across the country within the next four years under Voluntary Emission Reduction Project.
The WWF/N will provide Rs 12,000 loans for setting up each biogas plants through micro-finance institutions in 10 districts where Tarai Biosphere Program has been implemented. The loan will be an addition to the grants provided by the government to install the plants.
In February 2008, the government had given permission for the project to be registered under Clean Development Mechanism. At a programme organised today at Environment Ministry, Sandip Chamling Rai said installation of biogas plants would help to protect forests and enhance people’s earning.
