GAIGHAT: A youth was arrested Wednesday evening for raping a teenage girl in Udayapur district.

A 14-year-old girl of Triyuga Municipality in Udayapur district was forcefully taken into a jungle and raped while she was on her way home from school on Tuesday, police said.

The accused, Ram Kumar Rai (22), after finding the girl alone, took her to the jungle and raped her. The victim, whose house is about two hours away from school, is usually accompanied by a close friend. However, with her friend being ill, she had been walking alone for a few days.

The victim, in her statement, told the District Police Office (DPO) that the accused covered her face with his jacket and strangled her before raping her, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the DPO, Bir Bahadur Magar.

The victim's brother filed a complaint after the District Hospital confirmed sexual assault, on Wednesday, stated police.
