Youth gets 20-day jail

DAMAULI: District Court Tanahun on Thursday handed down 20-day prison term and a fine of Rs 2,000 to biker Sanjiv Wagle in an accident-related death case. A single bench of Judge Balbhadra Bastola passed the decision. Pedestrian Chandra Pulami, 48, was critically injured after the motorcycle Wagle was riding hit him in Byas. With a deep cut on his head, Pulami was taken to Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara, for treatment. Pulami died while undergoing treatment.

KATHMANDU: India has announced to donate 50 tonnes of galvanised corrugated sheets to Nepal for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the structures that were damaged by the April 25 earthquake. Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae on Friday handed over documents related to the import of the corrugated sheets to Home Secretary Surya Silwal during a meeting in Singha Durbar. These sheets will be transferred to the godowns of Nepal Government for storage and distribution. Secretary Silwal told THT that most of the sheets would be used for maintenance of the damaged government buildings and other structures. According to the Embassy of India in Nepal, the consignment is worth around Rs 4.5 million. The zinc sheets that will be imported are manufactured by the Steel Authority of India Limited, an Indian government enterprise. The corrugated sheets will also be used for building temporary shelters.
