Youth gives abductors the slip

Pokhara, February 15:

Students’ Welfare Committee (SWC) of Pokhara Technical Health Multipurpose Institute (PTHMI) based in Rambazaar, Pokhara, obstructed regular classes of the campus today, demanding the security of the students accusing the campus administration of being involved in the abduction of Dipendra Ghimire, a third-year student of general medical science and secretary of the SWC. He was abducted on Thursday evening while the police had found him on Friday in Bhairahawa as he had reached there evading the abductors. He is now under police security.

Students of the campus blamed the campus of creating drama fearing with the activities of the Students’ Welfare Committee (SWC) formed in the campus two weeks ago. Soon after the abduction, all the members of SWC had resigned from their respective posts. Former chairman of the SWC Nabinman Khadka warned to halt regular classes until they were guaranteed security.

Meanwhile, the campus administration said that it had closed the campus for an indefinite period fearing insecurity after Ghimire’s abduction. “We closed the campus after students, teachers and employees were ravaged with terror since Ghimire was abducted,” campus chief Rabindra Prasad Shrestha said. He added that whoever had committed the crime would be brought to book. He also said that the campus administration would form a panel to probe the case. The investigation is on, according to Kaski District Police Office. The campus chief said over 2,000 students were currently enrolled in the campus.
