Youth held for swindling Rs 6mln out of MBBS aspirant student
KATHMANDU: A youth has been arrested on charge of swindling around Rs 6.1 million out of a MBBS aspirant student in pretext of admission at the Varanasi-based Banaras Hindu University.
A team of police deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division arrested Ramesh Prasad Chauhan (29) of Bindabasani Rural Municipality-2 in Bara district, from Dhobighat of Lalitpur district, on Wednesday.
Earlier, Chauhan took his gullible target in confidence and assured him of MBBS admission at the Hindu University with 35-40 lakhs Indian rupees.
The suspect then demanded original certificates and Rs 800,000 in cash before issuing his target a forged admission receipt of Hindu University.
Subsequently, Chauhan collected Rs 5,120,000 from the MBBS aspirant student.
Later, the victim resorted to the MCD after realising being duped by Chauhan.
The police then seized two mobile sets, documents relating to Indian Foreign Ministry, various fake admission letters, forged stamps of educational institutions and a laptop from Chauhan's possession.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been sent to the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range for further investigation and action on Thursday.
