Youth killed in exchange of fire with police in Saptari

RAJBIRAJ: A youth who reportedly opened fire at police personnel, was killed in exchange of fire in Rupani Rural Municipality of Saptari district today morning.

The deceased has been identified as Dipendra Chaudhary (35) of Surunga Municipality-3 of Saptari district.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajendra Bista at Sapatari District Police Office, Chaudary who was riding on a motorcycle pillion and heading towards Rupani Chok from Rajbiraj, opened a fire targeting the police personnel who were following him under suspicion. In return, the security personnel exchanged fire and shot him dead in Rupani-3 along the Rajbiraj-Rupani road section.

However, the motorcyclist fled the incident site and remained untraceable due to the morning fog, added DSP Bista.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been sent to Rajbiraj-based Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital for postmortem.

Police claimed that the deceased was involved in a dozen offences including the murder of Assistant Sub Inspector of police (ASI) Resham Subba deployed at Jhutki Police post in the district, in 2015, and opening fire at on-duty Police Head Constable Mahendra Prasad Yadav in Bishanpur Chok of Khadak Municipality on January 16, 2019.
