A group of youths today smeared soot on the face of Education Development and Coordination Unit Chief Ananta Kumar Poudyal at his office in Doti.

A group of ten to twelve youths smeared Poudyal with soot at his office at around 1:30pm. Poudyal had just returned to his work station after inspecting the Secondary Education Examination that started today. According to a witness, the youths had brought the soot to Poudyal’s office in plastic bags to smear his face.

Issuing a press statement, Nepal Student Union revealed that Poudyal was involved in irregularities.

The statement read out that Poudyal had offered to contract for building construction and repairs in exchange for 10 per cent commission. The statement also accused Poudyal of misusing his power by appointing contract teachers for commission.

He was also accused of involvement in irregularities related to revenue and selection of superintendent for the examination as per the political quota. Poudyal was also accused of giving the bank account of Chandra Maya Koirala and Arun Poudyal to head teachers of schools to deposit the commission amount.

Chief District Officer Yadav Subedi was informed about the issue, but no action was forthcoming and the corruption continued unabated, read out the statement. The statement urged the media and citizens to investigate the irregularities and take action against the culprit. CDO Subedi said he was not informed about irregularities in the Education Development and Coordination Unit.

Meanwhile, DSP Lal Bahadur Dhami of Doti District Police Office, said a police team was deployed to probe the issue.
