Bandh closes valley schools
KATHMANDU: All the valley schools have remained closed due to the bandh called by the Guardian Association of Nepal (GAN) on Sunday.
The GAN has called for the closure of the valley schools demanding peace and security and to protest the abduction of a schoolgirl Monica Piya, a fourth grader of Sourdeep Boarding School at Balaju, on Thursday in the capital. She was briefly taken hostage and freed after the locals’ intervention.
The organisers have demanded the proper provision of security to the students and to book and prosecute those who are involved in the crime.
Private and Boarding Schools Organisation of Nepal (PABSON) and National Private and Boarding Schools Association of Nepal (N- PABSON) have also expressed their solidarity with the shutdown of the schools in the Valley.
Meanwhile, the organisers of the school shutdown have met with the Prime Minister on Sunday morning at his official residence in Baluwatar. In the meeting they demanded proper security to the schools and students. The Prime Minister gave his assurance that their demand would be met.
