Sherchan dismisses claims of no-trust motion

KATHMANDU: UCPN- Maoist Standing Committee member Amik Sherchan on Monday said that his party is planning to summon a special session of the parliament this week.

Stating that the issues including soaring prices of essentials, insecurity, nationalism and statute draft have been played down, he said, his party is calling the special session with a view to maintain national consensus by discussing the issues in the parliament.

Speaking at an interaction in Reporter's Club, Sherchan argued that the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal should resign so as to make the atmosphere conducive for the statute drafting.

Rather than ousting the PM through the no-trust motion, it would better if he resigns without such a motion having to be tabled against the government so as to pave the way for the politics of consensus, he said.

Clarifying that his party is not involved in any game of toppling the government, he said, "More than 301 CA members will back us if our party wants to topple the government. But we neither want to play mathematical games nor remain adamant on the formation of a national government under the leadership our party." He further said, "We will call a special session of the parliament, however, we will not table a no-confidence motion against the government." He clarified that no discussion was held in the party regarding a no- trust motion against the government.

He, however, stressed the need for political consensus and formation of a national unity government for the timely promulgation of the statute.
