SLC exam enters 2nd day after eventful first day

KATHMANDU: Students appeared for compulsory Nepali examination on the second day of the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations on Friday across the nation.

As per the examination schedule of the Office Control Examination (OEC) the SLC routine has scheduled English on March 25, followed by Compulsory Nepali on March 26. The exam for Compulsory Math is slated for March 28. Examinations for Social Studies, Science and Health, Population and Environment, would be held on March 29, 30 and 31, respectively. Examinees will take optional subjects first and second paper on April 1 and 2.

A variety of examinees had been seen on the first day of the examination centres in different districts with blind students taking examination with the help of junior students at Amar Singh Higher Secondary School in Pokhara, members of the same family i.e father and daughter appearing for the SLC examination in Myagdi district, at least five hundred PLA fighters appearing in the examination in Chitwan, Ilam, Rolpa districts, a woman named Kamala Rai of Samkhuwashaba attempting the SLC examination for the 22nd time and living goddess of Patan, Chaniara Bajracharya appearing for the examination as well.

Amid claims of the examination being organised peacefully, police arrested three fake examinees and some of the examiners on charges of being involved in helping the students to cheat.

Meanwhile a student named Deepak Poudel, 16, a local resident of Syanjha being depressed at his inability to perform in the examination as per his expectations, committed a suicide by hanging himself from a tree.

At least 456,719 examinees including 412, 692 regular and 44, 127 exempted are appearing for the examination this year, OCE, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur informed.

There are 1550 examination centres established for the examination.
