Sujata stresses on mechanism
GULMI: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala on Tuesday warned that the country would plunge into internal conflicts if the political mechanism was not formed at the earliest. She also described the importance of the mechanism as it would be helpful to draft the new constitution in the prescribed time frame and take the peace process to a logical end.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the Golden Jubilee of Mahendra Adarsha Higher Secondary School of Wami Taksar, Koirala said, ”We had talked with Maoist chairman Dahal to form a political mechanism under the leadership of Girijababu.”
Koirala expressed her satisfaction as the Maoists had been learning democratic practices and abandoning anarchic activities. She also urged the UCPN-Maoist to join the present government. Saying that the instability of the country would not help any political parties she said, “I urge the UCPN-Maoist not to be involved in activities that would derail the peace process.”
Opining that education is a must for social and economic change Koirala said, “I would help the education sector as much as possible.”
Meanwhile, she also inaugurated the newly constructed building of Taksar Health Post and building of District Education Office.
However, her visit was marred by cadres of UCPN-Maoist showing her black flags while she was attending the inauguration ceremony of the health post building.
Koirala also met with the party cadres in Tamghas, the district headquarters, today itself.
