Art of living
Thousands are thronging to Tundikhel early in the morning to take part in the six-day yoga training that Swami Ramdev is conducting. It is a good thing that, in recent years, more and more people have been turning back to yoga as a scientific method of improving both physical and mental health. Moreover, an increasing number of people in Nepal, India and elsewhere have turned to yoga not only to stay fit and healthy but also to cure diseases of all sorts. In this yoga reawakening, the contribution of various Hindu yoga gurus such as Swami Ramdev is unforgettable. In fact, yoga has been one of the most valuable inventions of the East for physical well-being and spiritual enhancement, if practiced properly and with the right knowledge.
Especially in a country like Nepal, where the majority of the population cannot afford expensive methods of healthcare, yoga, along with ayurved, could provide a free or low-cost non-invasive alternative. Swami Ramdev and his colleagues have also started the overdue process of putting yoga and ayurved to the tests of modern medical science. Indeed, in this scientific age, people want scientific evidence before they can believe in almost anything. For patients, no system of medicine is good or bad. Whatever cures them is best for them. Every system of medicine has its strong as well as weak points. There are many instances where patients suffering from serious diseases have got relief from yoga after failing to recover through the use allopathic treatment. So any effort to develop yoga and ayurved is highly commendable.
