Biratnagar polytechnic, first of its kind in Nepal
BIRATNAGAR: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal inaugurated the Manmohan Memorial Polytechnic at Hattimudha VDC near Biratnagar in Morang on Monday in the presence of Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood. The polytechnic has been established with an assistance of NRs 46 crores from the Government of India under India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme on the request of Government of Nepal and is the first of its kind in the country.
The polytechnic located in the heart of industrial town of Biratnagar in eastern Nepal is affiliated to the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and offers three-year diploma courses in electronics, electrical and mechanical engineering with a view to filling the gap of middle level human resources and expertise in the field of
engineering and aims at providing employable skills to the students.
The polytechnic aims to meet the requirements
of the job market of Nepal by producing right persons for the right jobs, which will contribute towards the growth and industrial development of Nepal. The project has been executed by Government of India on a turn-key basis. Government of India has also committed to providing Indian experts under faculty support to the polytechnic for a period of five years.
All policy related matters of the polytechnic will be handled by a Board of Governors having wide range of representation from Nepali industry and industrial professionals, Government of India, universities, engineering institutions, employment agencies, and related departments of Government of Nepal. The regular
functioning of the polytechnic will be managed by an executive committee of the polytechnic, comprising representatives from Manmohan Memorial Foundation, Government of India, CTEVT, educationists and experts from related subjects.
A business event was held after the inauguration of the Institute by the Embassy of India in association with the Nepal-India Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Chamber of Industries, Morang and Morang Merchants’ Association. The main purpose of the event was to present the institute and its strength to the local industry and to understand the expectations of the local industry from the institute, thereby creating a synergy between the institute and the industries.
Sood also inaugurated the approach road from Manmohan Chowk at Biratnagar-Dharan highway to Manmohan Memorial Polytechnic constructed with an assistance of NRs 1.94 crore from Government of India under Small Development Projects Programme.
India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme has an outlay of over 2,570 crores with more than 350 large and small projects currently being implemented in all districts of Nepal in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development and reflect the commitment of the government and the people of India to work together with the people of Nepal in their stride towards peace and development.
