Cart before the horse

Often typecast for its laggard management, Tribhuvan University at long last seems all set to move ahead by leaps and bounds. In fact, it has leapfrogged by announcing admissions for the Master’s level, while the results for the third year Bachelor’s level examinations are still known to have stuck in the assembly line. In the past, TU used to announce admissions after the publication of results, which inadvertently would take months on end. This sudden change in momentum has left many students confused. The early admissions might help to make up for the mismanagement that has beleaguered TU, but students might be at the receiving end if results let them down. Loss of the non-refundable application fee would add to their despair.

Despite the TU administration’s word that the results would be published by the admission deadline and that early admissions would facilitate the scheduled student union’s election, the university’s unenviable track record about timeframes leaves little room for relief. Also, one wonders if elections are more important for the university than academic activities. With many failures under its belt, it would indeed be something to be glad about if the university also took measures to improve the quality of education. But as things stand, being overly optimistic might be a folly.
