Democracy Day: Insipid

Falgun 7 is celebrated as Prajatantra Day in Nepal every year. But where is democracy in this country? All politicians keep referring to Janata and Rastra, but they themselves know that nothing constructive has been done for the people or for the nation in the past for so long. People are insecure even in their homes. The nation is relentlessly traumatised at the moment without any hope for peace. People are victimised, abducted and killed. Not to talk of the rebels, the security force is gunning down innocent people in the name of security. Everyone is suspicious of each other and common people are finding it hard to express their feelings. There is severe violation of human rights in Nepal and authorities are turning deaf ears to it. Why is the RNA not being responsible and learning from numerous mistakes they have committed in the past? They should remember that they have a social responsibility towards the country.

Good work

I am a regular reader of The Himalayan Times and would like to congratulate you on launching the Perspectives.

The articles in this new supplement are very interesting. It would be better if you publish biographies of renowned personalities. My best wishes are with you.

Be responsible

It is very sad that three men got killed during RNA shooting incident in Chitwan on

Shivaratri day. This has raised a security problem amongst the public. It has demonstrated the way army is getting out of hand and misusing arms and ammunitions. Also, the

incident in Myanglung has made people sceptical about the security force. The RNA should take care and see to it that such incidents do not take place in future.

Try Linux

Now-a-days the term Linux is well known in the field of Information Technology.

However, many people have wrong idea or little knowledge about it. Linux is an operating system like Windows. Linux also has a desktop like Windows, but it is much more advanced. For instance, in the start menu of Linux you will find many options then in Windows and in desktop instead of folders like My Computer, My documents, Recycle Bin, etc., you will get other folders with their own functions.

Linux may also seem confusing at first as you will not see hard drive named ‘C:’/ ‘D:’ but other alphabets.

If we understand Microsoft Windows, then we can go ahead and try Linux too.

Windows installs on Disk File systems like FAT32, NTFS etc. but Linux needs its own file system like ext2fs and ext3fs. If we use Linux, we can get rid of all problems that we get in Windows like waiting for another application to close, instability, frequent hang and so on.

Wagley correct

This refers to the article “Investment in education” by Mana Wagley published on February 12. He highlighted relevant issues. It is sad that large number of NGOs are hiding themselves behind foreign curtains. It is ridiculous to do so. No doubt the self-declared intellectuals are helping donors who are considered as talismans. Foreigner’s outlook is often exaggerated by Nepali media too. Educational institutions may think that it is a great honour to welcome foreign donors. It’s high time the government take appropriate step towards this issue.
