Unjustified move

Apropos of the editorial “Borrowed time” (THT, Mar. 21), I feel the views expressed are very biased. The people who have used the trolley bus service had an emotional attachment with this once reliable means of transportation. Removal of trolley bus electric pylons not only testifies to the poor and corrupt management of the operators but also public’s apathy towards a project funded by a friendly neighbour up north.

Widening the Araniko Highway along Koteswor-Suryabinayak section cannot justify termination of the service. And how can it incur loss at a time when all other public transport systems are making big profits? Rather than promoting eco-friendly transport arrangement, this decision of the government only helps increase the risks of the already noxious air we breathe.

Tarai crisis

The news report “Bloodbath in Gaur sees 27 dead, 40 injured” (THT, Mar. 22) was gruesome. The latest incident gives a clear message that there is no dousing the flames of revenge and hatred. Earlier it was the Maoists who had kindled the flames of injustice and suppression, now it’s some other group. Tomorrow, there might be yet another. One thing is certain though: Violence only begets more violence.

It is no secret that the present government is not functioning well. Yet some of the blame also goes to the “royalists” who have put fuel to the fire. Hence the eight parties and other pro-democratic forces need to remain in alert.

Otherwise, the enemies of democracy may triumph.

THT Online

THT is my only source of information in a distant land. But of late, I am having great trouble accessing it online. It would be great for avid readers of THT like myself who are living abroad if you could work on your webpage.

Whose hand?

Keeping the insensitive and inefficient Krishna Prasad Sitaula as the Home Minister while shifting all blame to the Maoists is a marvellous tactic on the part of the prime minister. In all probability, some external elements have a hand in contributing to this state of affairs. They seem to wield a lot more power than most of the Nepali leaders.

Wrong info

I have been a regular reader of THT for a long time now. After I scan the headlines, the first thing I do is turn over the “What’s On” column. But it has been over a month that the movies and timings of the films under “StarMovies” have been wrongly presented. You should either remove the column altogether or give correct information.

What of him?

Concerning the news brief “Nepali asylum seeker dies” (THT, Mar. 20), I wonder what is the latest update on Uddhav Bhandari who reportedly set himself on fire in Glasgow, Scotland. It’s a pity that the news of deaths of Nepalis in foreign countries is not given much coverage in Nepali media.
