MIDWAY: Birds of a feather
I quite often notice smart young guys dressed in T-shirts with some ridiculous slogans. The teenagers in particular hunt for such fancy clothes. It provokes laughter whenever I see such outfits. Those wearing them or others on the street might think I have gone mad, as they can never fathom the real cause of my amusement.
One fine morning, as I was on my way to the office I saw a boy dressed up in a sky blue T-shirt with a slogan that stated: 99 per cent girls in the world are beautiful and the rest one per cent are at my college. I couldn’t control myself and had a hearty laugh at the cost of the boy who appeared to be innocent. I, however, didn’t bother to ask him if he ever knew the meaning. I thought about the girls at his college. Poor girls!
The next day, I came across a group of juvenile girls in the market. To my surprise, all of them were wearing T-shirts bearing some slogans. One girl
had the inscription: No money. No problem, No car. No problem, No job. No problem, Guess what? No date! I was indeed touched by what I read.
Then there was the next slogan with bold white letters on a red heart-shape that urged Kiss me! I didn’t dare to do that but nevertheless had a hearty laugh at her lack of maturity. In the meantime, the other girls looked hard at me. One of them came to me and asked if I was a pressman or a writer. I replied I was neither of the two but only interested in the inscription on their T-shirts.
“How dare you?” They yelled at me. They suspected my intentions at first but seemed satisfied with my clarification.
There was also a lad with them wearing a T-shirt that read: ‘Nobody dies a virgin because life f**** all’. I pitied the boy as I cursed the lack of character, culture and breeding in him. But I felt ashamed at myself, as I too am a bird of the same feather.
Anyway, I love folks wearing T-shirts with witty thoughts or maxims. Some other catchy slogans that have given me immense pleasure are: Money is not everything, I am sorry honey; Ask me no questions, I’ll tell no lies; Cut your coat according to your cloth, Do unto others as you want them do to you, and last but not the least, Eat to live, don’t live to eat!
