MIDWAY: My first love

I’m a foodie. I savour different types of delicacies. I love to eat and there’s nothing in the world that gives me as much pleasure and satisfaction as eating. Whenever I get my pay cheque, the first thing I do is visit a fine restaurant and have my favourite delicacies.

From Tandoori Dhabas to the Chinese Room, from Everest Momo to Momo Magic, I have tried them all. But my all time favourite has been the Nanglo’s sizzler and the Old House Café’s biryani. And my diet is by no means an ordinary fare — once I start eating I hardly stop. All my friends, relatives, and family members are goggle-eyed whenever they see me eating.

Every time my family is invited for lunch or dinner, the hosts who know me well have quite a separate menu for me. They make me feel so special by focusing on my favourite dishes. That makes me feel so good and I never let them down. I make sure that there are no leftovers. And more than me it’s the host who feels more satisfied after I clear up the items made exclusively for me.

Everyone who has a strong liking for food gives me a call when something special is being cooked.

My friends don’t mind inviting me to different restaurants when their pockets

are quite loaded. The mouth-watering Newari dishes of Layaku where Ravi often takes me to, piping hot parathas at Victor’s house, palak prepared by Salil’s mum, Suridh’s homemade yomaris, and of course, the variety of delicacies that Isha’s mom comes up with are some of my favourites. But the one I love the most is the kebab made by my mother. She is indeed the best chef in the whole world.

But for a food freak like me life can be very hard if you have a dietician mom. She is very fussy when it comes to food and tries to prevent me from gobbling up to my heart’s content, which doesn’t impress me much. I do understand that it’s for my very own health, but the truth is that I hate any kind of restriction when it comes to food. It’s a bit too much to digest. Mom must realise that her son is amongst those who live to eat and don’t eat to live. Even on my deathbed, my last wish would indeed be food and more food — may be a sizzler or a biryani. After all, eating is my first love!
