The drive to make all Nepalese literate is indeed ambitious but certainly not impossible with adequate commitment from all sectors involved. When the National Literacy Campaign-2065 was launched, there were those who did not think it was possible. However, it is always worthwhile to set a target and the literacy drive is one such. Having all Nepalese literate has abundant advantages, among them being that such people would be more receptive to development messages as a result of which the quality of their lives would ameliorate dramatically. This is more so relevant in a country like Nepal where a huge number of people are illiterate. Now we find that because of the lack of preparation the goal set for the first phase of the literacy campaign could not be met on time. Literacy classes could not be implemented in some of the slated districts.
So the need now, as the campaign now reaches the second phase, is to be more serious and learn from the past mistakes so that this campaign gains in momentum. A lot of money and resources have been allocated for the literacy drive, and it would be a pity to see all these go to waste. No doubt, those who came up with the idea in the first place saw this as a challenge. However, making lofty plans has to be backed by practical work. Now it is time for results rather than feel pride on the idea being great. The mission of making everyone literate has to move ahead honestly.
