KATHMANDU, JUNE 17

Global electric vehicle manufacturer Seres reported a strong sales rebound in April, marking its first year-on-year new energy vehicle (NEV) sales growth of 2025. The company sold 31,488 NEVs last month, a 12.99% increase compared to April 2024, signaling recovery after a sluggish first quarter, according to the press release.

Based in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, Seres has rapidly gained momentum in China's competitive NEV market through its collaboration with Huawei. The company's flagship model, the M9, equipped with intelligent driving technologies, continues to attract former owners of premium internal combustion engine vehicles, including those from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi. The M9 has topped China's luxury vehicle sales in the 500,000 yuan (USD 69,435) segment for 11 straight months, the release further states.

Following a first-quarter slump-attributed to a model transition period-the launch of the M9 2025 Edition in March and the M8 in April has reignited consumer interest. Sales, which had dropped to 5,236 units in March, surged to 13,149 units in April, the first full month of M9 2025 Edition deliveries, it noted.

Unveiled on April 16, the M8 bridges the gap between the M7 and M9, with prices ranging from 359,800 to 449,800 yuan. With features such as LiDAR technology and Huawei's HarmonyOS cockpit, the M8 delivers high-end specs at a more accessible price point-nearly 100,000 yuan less than the M9. The model has received over 70,000 pre-orders within weeks of launch.

Seres sold 426,885 NEVs in 2024, a staggering 182.84% year-on-year growth, according to its annual report. However, the modest figures from early 2025 suggest that matching last year's delivery volume may prove challenging, it added.

The company has not yet released detailed delivery data for the M8, making it difficult to determine the model's short-term impact. While pre-orders show strong interest, actual deliveries may vary due to production constraints and order cancellations.

Seres' April performance also reflects broader momentum in China's NEV sector. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, 1.226 million NEVs were sold across China in April, up 44.2% year-on-year, accounting for 47.3% of the 2.59 million total vehicle sales that month.
