THT 10 years ago: All is well in party: NC (D)
KATHMANDU: The central working committee (CWC) of the ruling Nepali Congress (Democratic) was adjourned till tomorrow with CWC members still expressing their views on party general secretary Bijay Kumar Gachchadar’s concept paper.
Party spokesperson Homnath Dahal said the members are still discussing the concept paper and refuted disparities among party members on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s deputation of “upstarts”. “Prime Minister Deuba did not express his view in today’s meeting,” said Dahal. A party source, however, claimed that the older generation leaders are keen on giving a fight to the younger generation. The “battle,” the source claimed, has now “entered the third day”. The central working committee meeting is likely to end tomorrow. However, he said that tomorrow’s meeting would also discuss the possible names of those leaders planning to join the government. He confirmed that the fight was between stalwarts and “upstart” leaders, and also between those who were elected to the last parliament and those who weren’t. Those in the last parliament are arguing that they should be represented in the Cabinet.
Prove Deuba’s appointment as regressive, Nepal challenges agitating parties
HETAUDA: CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has issued a challenge to the agitating parties daring them to prove that the appointment of Sher Bahadur Deuba as Prime Minister is an example of continued regression. Addressing the inaugural programme of the eighth national conference of Free Students’ Union Council in Hetauda today, Nepal claimed Deuba’s appointment had corrected regression. “The four parties are creating a farce and have failed to abide by the agreement made 11 months ago.” He added such a drama would benefit no one. He went on to say his party would “welcome anyone willing to play a role in bringing the Maoists to the talks table”. Addressing another programme in Birgunj, Nepal said there was no other option but to support the Deuba government if regression is to be corrected and people’s rights seized by the King is to be restored. Speaking at the release of Narayani Today, he warned, “If this government fails, the country will be mired more deeply in crisis.” He said if the Deuba government fails, no other government would succeed and stressed on the need to support Deuba government to uphold democracy, peace and security. UML broke away from the five-party-alliance claiming Deuba’s appointment have come about as a result of the two-year agitation.
