Seen in these pictures are demonstrators holding a torch rally to protest against PM KP Sharma Oli's move of house dissolution, in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, February 3, 2020. Similarly, riot police personnel can be viewed attempting to douse the torches.

PM Oli on December 20 announced the dismantling of the Lower Houser of federal parliament and called for elections more than a year ahead of schedule.

The Prime Minister's decision has caused much chaos within the political sphere of the nation resulting in a split in his own party, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

The dissenting faction of the party led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal have called for a general strike on Thursday.
