KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 9
The Gadhimai Festival, held every five years in Mahagadhimai Municipality, Bara, is a significant event that spans an entire month, drawing hundreds of thousands of devotees. It is often referred to as the Kumbh Mela of the Tarai.
The festival is particularly known for the mass sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of animals, as Hindu devotees, including many from India, participate to honor Gadhimai, the goddess of power.
