KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 10

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has said internet service charges have not increased and warned providers against charging more than approved rates or operating without authorisation.

The telecom regulator issued the clarification following media reports about a possible hike in internet tariffs, saying it had received no proposal from service providers to increase prices.

The NTA said charges for telecommunications services must be fair and reasonable. Under its directives, providers must submit proposed tariffs for approval at least three months before their intended effective date.

It also reminded providers that they must publicly disclose approved rates and cannot raise charges without prior approval.

The authority warned that violations, including overcharging and unauthorised service operations, would invite action under the Telecommunications Act and Regulations.
