13th South Asian Games: Nepal's gold count reaches 39

KATHMANDU: Nepal has so far secured 39 gold, 27 silver and 41 bronze medals in the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) ongoing in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur.

Subash Tamang won a gold in the men’s individual category of golf leaving behind Bangladeshi golfer Mahommad Farhad, making a history of Nepal winning its first gold in golf. Likewise, Sukra Bahadur Rai secured the bronze medal in the same event.

Similarly, in the men’s team category of golf, a team of four including Tamang, Rai, Tanka Bahadur Karki and Niraj Tamang added another gold in Nepal’s bag.

Earlier, athlete Gopi Chand Parki bagged a gold medal for Nepal in the 5,000-metre race at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu. He completed the race in 14' 54.20'' leaving behind his Indian opponent Sunil Dawal who reached the target in 14' and 55.21".

Likewise, athlete Hari Rimal became the third finisher and secured the bronze medal for Nepal.

Currently, Nepal is trailing behind India in the 13th SAG.
