Acharya wins Thalar Cup

Madhav Acharya won the Thalar Cup Golf Tournament 2004 here at Royal Nepal Golf Course today. Played at Stroke Play Full Handicap format, Acharya finished the day at 71, beating Tashi Ghale by just one stroke in the 0-9 handicap category. Ghale, who had four birdies on the day, also won the most birdies award. In 10-18 handicap section, Min Bahadur Basnet, with the score of 65, finished first ahead of Vinode SJB Rana, who scored 67. K J Baral, with 33 points, came first in the super senior category, followed by Maj P L Thapa with the score of 49. Lady captain of RNGC Shastika Shrestha (80) and Pushpa Rai (86) finished first and second in the ladies section. Deep Bahadur Basnet, the captain
of the Royal Nepal Golf Club, won the best gross award with 69 gross points. Basnet also won the longest drive award at Hole No 13. Capt Rabindra Purush Dhakal was the golfer nearest to the pin at Hole No 5, while Col Nara Bahadur Gurung won the same award at Hole No 17. Sachindra Rajbanshi won the sportsmanship award. In all, 74 golfers — including six in ladies and three in super senior — took part in the 16th edition of the event. Jharendra Narayan Singha, the founder of the tournament, gave away prizes to the winners. RNGC Captain of RNGC Deep Bahadur Basnet, secretary Pradeep Bikram Rana, and treasurer Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha, were also present on the occasion.
