Alam, Basnet shine on Day-I

Birgunj/Bhairahawa, June 6:

Bowlers dominated the first day of the Shikhar Two-day National Cricket Tournament between Region No 1 (Biratnagar) and Region No 3 (Kathmandu) here on Wednesday. Batting first, Biratnagar declared their innings at 207-8. Raju Basnet took six wickets for Kathmandu. Sunil Bista scored 45 off 80 balls while Kushal Tuladhar made 33 for Biratnagar.

In reply, paceman Maheboob Alam rattled through the Kathmandu batting taking seven wickets off 12 overs. Kathmandu were reeling at 112-8 at close. Skipper Paresh Lohani was unbeaten on 61.

In Bhairahawa, Dhirendra Chand (80) and Rajendra Chand (57) both scored half centuries as Region No 6 (Baitadi) declared their first innings at 233-9 in 56.4 overs against Region No 4 (Bhairahawa). Basanta Regmi and Bijay Thapa took three wickets each for Bhairahawa.

In reply, hosts Bhairahawa were 94-4 in 31 overs at stumps. Shakti Gauchan was unbeaten on 36 and Krishna Karki not out on three.
