Kathmandu, May 6

Ang Dorjee Sherpa and Wangchen Dhondup won the first edition titles of the Carlsberg Golf Series here at Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the 11-handicap amateur golfer Sherpa scored 38 points to win the nett category trophy. Sherpa, who earned 17 and 21 points on the two halves respectively, got a Taylormade Iron set, two cases of carlsberg beer and one case of kronenbourg 1664 beer.

Bijay Bahadur Shrestha finished second on count back after he was tied on 37 points with Surendra Phuyal. Shrestha scored 20 on the back nine, while Phuyal had 18. Shrestha received trophy, gift hampers, a case each of carlsberg and kronenbourg 1664 beer.

Dhondup accumulated 37 points to win the gross section title of the tournament. Dhondup received a Taylormade driver, two cases of carlsberg beer and one case of kronenbourg 1664 beer along with the trophy. Tashi Tshiring was runner-up with 31 gross points. He received gift hampers, a case each of carlsberg and kronenbourg 1664 beer.

Likewise, Rekha Ghimire won the women’s section trophy with 32 points, while Ujin Shim (30) was second. Lt Gen KNS Thapa bagged senior category award, while Maj Gen Mahesh Bikram Karki was runner-up.

Also, Maj Hem Kumar Tamang won the closest-to-the-pin award, while Prakash Gurung bagged the longest drive trophy. Prithivi Malla won the most birdies award with three birdies.

A total of three tournaments will be played under the Carlsberg Golf Series. The second and third editions are slated for August and October respectively. Players in top 10 in nett section and top five in gross category earn points and the players with the highest points after the final edition will be declared the champions of Carlsberg Golf Series.

A total of 88 golfers took part in the first edition of the Series. Director Marketing of Gorkha Brewery Baibhav Sharma, Sales Director Kajiman Subba, Director Strategy and CSC Amar Baidya and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners.
