APF defend Women’s National Volleyball title

Kathmandu, May 8

Defending champions Nepal APF Club thrashed Nepal Police Club in straight sets to win the title of the KNP Japan National Women’s Volleyball Tournament here at the NSC covered hall today.

In the final match, APF dominated the first set winning it 25-12. The second set looked a little bit competitive but APF won 25-19. APF then bagged the third set 25-17 to seal the victory in straight sets. This is fourth straight year APF have won the title of the tournament in as many years.

Meanwhile, Shivam New Diamond Academy outplayed Western Regional Volleyball Association in straight sets to claim the third position. The last year’s runners-up, NDA won the match 25-14, 25-16, 25-14.

Champions APF earned Rs 150,000 and runners-up NPC received Rs 100,000, while third-place finishers NDA got Rs 50,000.

APF’s Saraswoti Chaudhary was named the best player of the tournament and her teammate Reshma Bhandari received the Sher Bahadur Khadka Special Award. Both of them received Rs 10,000 and Tissot watch sponsored by Sulux Centre.

Similarly, APF’s Usha Bista was named the best server and Gyanendra Bista, also of APF, was declared the best coach. NDA’s Pratibha Mali, Salina Shrestha and Lalita Nath were adjudged the best spiker, defender and quicker respectively. NPC’s Manisha Chaudhary and Kamala Pun won the best blocker and setter awards respectively. The individual award winners got Rs 5,000 each.

A total of six teams competed in the tournament organised by Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation under the sponsorship of KNP Japan Pvt Ltd.
